SOYBS – Joy…

As I continue with my part-time job as a care giver, I learn more about how Alzheimer’s affects the brain, the person and the family. It took me quite some time to come up with this piece. I wanted the main image to be one that is “haunting” because that is what comes to mind when the word Alzheimer’s is mentioned. The person with it slowly looses her present identity, and the family slowly hits new road blocks every day. My job helps both the client and the family by allowing family members time away to work, shop or relax. This is where my job brings me joy, I am able to help the client through the day and the family gets a break.
This week at work, I am thrilled to finally go through a class that upgrades my knowledge of how to care more for the future clients I will have. This class will show me how to work with the clients that need more help than I was able to give them. Such as helping them in the shower, or in and out of bed or a wheelchair, or even using a walker. I am so excited about this.

Hi, I love your page about AD. My hubby has a form of it called Lewy Body Dementia which is kind of a cross between AD and Parkinson’s.

I came across your site through SOYBS and I have to tell you that I like this work because it really conveys what you were looking for “haunting,” but it does have an air of sadness as well – not surprising considering the subject matter. I have looked at your other items and you really have a great imagination and talent.

Sharon, I really admire what you do. Your page is so powerful I nearly cried. You rock!
