Step Outside Your Box Saturdays – Beeswax
After starting a new job (gotta pay for this hobby somehow), and being run ragged for my first week (egads), I was looking forward to this challenge. This was my first time playing with beeswax in the pot form. I have, sort of, played with encaustic wax, but not a bunch. Anyway, I did a 4 x 4. Painted it with a wash of metallic blue for a background, then used a Impression Obsession heart stamp over that. Then came the beeswax (gulp), a layer of beeswax, some white tissue, a layer of beeswax (disaster) it looked funky. I tried my heat gun, no good; okay, get out the quilting iron. In the meantime, trim the tissue down to the 4 x 4. Ahha, more control with the iron (I can even smooth out the edges of the project. I layered everything else on there. Had some problems with the dimensional stuff, but with practice I can get that one down. I decided to add some encaustic wax, gold; oops, dribbled in the wrong place (right over the man’s frame). Lesson learned, highlight wax first then embellishments. I will have to do this again…

I like your beeswax piece very much! I can’t find my quilting iron so I used a travel iron….worked better actually because it was a bit larger!
Isn’t it fun?
